| The pandemic has changed. Cases have fallen. Large portions of the public have some form of immunity. That's the reality Dr. Leana S. Wen has been highlighting for weeks while urging the federal government to relax its mask guidelines. Fortunately, it seems, the administration is listening. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finally issued new guidelines, largely along the lines that Wen has advocated for few weeks. She is, understandably, quite pleased with the changes. As she wrote in her column on Friday, "Of course, I wish this guidance arrived a few weeks earlier, before governors took it upon themselves to remove mandates in nearly all states. Still, it's better late than never." This is not a moment to throw all caution to the wind, she emphasizes. Still, it's a great development for the country.
